Drug courts help divert non-violent offenders from jail by offering substance abuse treatment over incarceration. The court helps individuals who have been arrested and who have a substance use disorder. The program includes frequent drug testing, substance abuse therapy, and supervision.
The Rappahannock Regional Drug Treatment Courts launched in 1998. The program includes an adult treatment court, which can serve 75 individuals and a juvenile court, which serves 20.
The Rappahannock Regional Drug Treatment Court is a collaborative effort among several community partners.
The adult drug treatment court team includes:
- Fredericksburg Circuit Court,
- Fredericksburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office,
- Office of the Public Defender,
- Rappahannock Area Community Services Board,
- Adult Probation and Parole (District 21), and
- Rappahannock Regional Jail
The juvenile drug treatment court team includes:
- Fredericksburg Juvenile and Domestic Court,
- Fredericksburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office,
- Office of the Public Defender,

Drug Treatment Court graduates have their charges dismissed after they’ve completed the program, a process that takes at least one year.
