A Foundation of Support
Latroy’s professional journey with the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board began with the Child and Adolescent Case Management team, which she fondly describes as the roots of her agency experience. From these beginnings, Latroy has cultivated a career marked by continuous education, professional advancement, and meaningful relationships.
Investing in Education and Expertise
One of the most significant aspects of Latroy’s experience at RACSB has been the organization’s support for educational and professional development. Since joining the agency, she has achieved remarkable milestones, including obtaining a Master’s degree and licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
“I have found that the ability to engage in training and higher education has helped to create greater opportunity for growth throughout my career,” Latroy reflects. This commitment to ongoing learning has allowed her to develop expertise in areas she’s passionate about, including trauma, adoption, and clinical supervision.
The encouragement she received played a crucial role in her educational journey. “The flexibility and encouragement which I have received has been motivational,” she notes. Her supervisor’s willingness to advocate for her needs was instrumental in helping her achieve her degree, demonstrating RACSB’s investment in employee growth.
Building Lasting Relationships
What distinguishes Latroy’s story is the emphasis she places on the relationships formed throughout her RACSB career. These connections have proven so meaningful that they transcended even a brief departure from the organization. “Several kept in contact, supporting me on my new adventure and those individuals embraced me on my return,” she shares.
The depth of these professional relationships reflects the unique culture at RACSB. As Latroy explains, “We spend so much time together, we speak RACSB language (which by the way is NOT universal, lol) and we support each other in and outside of work.” This sense of community has provided a foundation of support that kept her “grounded, motivated and inspired.”
Finding Inspiration in Colleagues
For Latroy, the people at RACSB have been a significant source of professional inspiration. She describes her close colleagues as “truly inspirational individuals” whose example has helped shape her own approach to her work. These relationships have influenced not only her professional development but her personal growth as well.
A Return to RACSB
A particularly telling aspect of Latroy’s journey is her decision to return to RACSB after spending time elsewhere. This period of reflection reinforced her appreciation for what the organization offers—both in terms of growth opportunities and meaningful relationships. “I had time to reflect during my ‘short time away’ and it is the opportunities to grow as well as the relationships that I have experienced with some of the staff I have worked with that kept me here and brought me back,” she explains.
Wisdom for Future Professionals
Drawing from her experience, Latroy offers straightforward advice to those considering RACSB for their career development: “Embrace differences, continue to learn and be open to opportunities.” This concise guidance encapsulates the mindset that has served her well throughout her professional journey with the organization.
