CRI Course 1: Trauma-Informed is a 6-hour course that covers NEAR Science (Neuroscience, Epigenetics, ACE Study, Resilience), Brain States, and ROLES strategies for individuals seeking a trauma-informed certification.

Teaches adults how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness andsubstance use disorders. The training introduces common mental health challenges and givesyou the skills to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing amental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

Rappahannock Area Community Services Board has partnered with the Virginia Department of Health to make naloxone available to lay rescuers to reverse opioid overdoses. Opioids include licit medications like hydrocodone and oxycodone, in addition to illicit drugs like heroin.

This harm reduction initiative trains individuals on what to do and not do in an overdose situation, how to administer naloxone, and what to do afterwards. Each attendee also receives a free kit, which includes all the supplies needed to administer naloxone.  The training lasts approximately 1-hour.

Following the training, RACSB will dispense free naloxone to attendees.

Virtual trainings will be held via Zoom. Once you sign-up, a Zoom registration link will be emailed to you a few days prior to the training date.

The LivingWorks Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, commonly referred to as ASIST, is a 2-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. Participants learn to recognize when someonemay have thoughts of suicide and to work with the individual to create a plan that will supporttheir immediate safety. ASIST can be learned and used by anyone ages 16 and older.

Training is from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days. Please only register if you are able to attend and fully participate for the full two days.

Training will be held at RACSB at River Club located at 10825 Tidewater Trail, Fredericksburg, VA 22408 (behind the CVS at the intersection of Tidewater Trail/Route 2 and Benchmark Road). When facing the building, please utilize the doors to the right marked “Training and Development.”

Course Specifics

Over the course of their two-day workshop, ASIST participants learn to:

• Understand the ways that personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions
• Provide guidance and suicide first aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs
• Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it
• Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large
• Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care

There currently is no cost per participant. RACSB is providing lunch and refreshments both days of the training (please bring your own coffee/tea). Training materials and facilitation are provided thanks to the generous support of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).

Space is limited to 30 participants. Only register if you are able to attend and fully participate the full two days and are not “on-call” for other duties during that time. (A minimum of 10 registrations is needed to host the course.)

safeTALK is a 3-hour training in suicide alertness. It helps participants recognize a person with thoughts of suicide and connect them with resources who can help them in choosing to live. Participants do not need any formal preparation to attend the training.
